Two years ago, I meet my now good friend Matt, at the time we were doing coastrek in Sydney. During the walk we were given Team Jodie shirts to wear, after asking what Team Jodie was about I came to learn of MND, having heard of it in the past but not in any great detail I came to learn alot more about it as Matt's wife Jodie suffers the condition.
After meeting Jodie at a previous fundraiser and spending a bit of time with Matt in between I really wanted to find a way to help their family.
After discussion with Jodie, Matt then some close trail running friends, the idea of the GNW500 was established.
Jodie and Matt asked if any funds raised could go towards FightMND as they feel the funds are best used towards the research of MND.
The FightMND foundation was established with the purpose of funding research to one day find effective treatments and ultimately a cure for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
MND is currently a death sentence and gradually takes away the use of a person’s arms and legs, their ability to eat and swallow, their speech and ultimately their ability to breathe.
Therefore on the 17th of June 2019, the unattempted return journey of the Great North Walk from Newcastle to Sydney and back to Newcastle will be traveled to raise awareness and funds for FightMND on behalf of team Jodie.
The journey will be attempted over 6 days covering a total of 552km with 13200 metres of vertical ascent over the distance (which is equivalent to climbing Mt Everest 1.5 times)
I'm passionate about this cause as a good friend is currently battling this beast. I've seen the devastating effects it has on not only the sufferer but also her entire family.
Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about FightMND, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
