On the 5th of October, 2019, I will be setting off on my second bicycle ride, from the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), to cycle to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), in support of FightMND (To read about the last day's cycling of my 2017 ride: https://www.rtw.bike/cycle-against-the-beast-day-20-seymour-to-the-mcg-i-made-it/). I intend to arrive at the MCG on the afternoon of the 1st of November. The aim is to raise funds and awareness for the hideous beast of a disease called MND - Motor Neurone Disease.
For information about my 2000 km bicycle ride, please visit https://www.rtw.bike/introducing-cycle-against-the-beast-2019/ (a route map is also included).
MND is an insidious disease, which attacks the motor neurones in the brain and spinal cord. These special nerve cells control movement, such as walking, talking, and also breathing. Over time, the disease robs you of the ability to function. However, the mind remains active. It is a terminal disease. In Australia, two people are diagnosed with MND every day. Two people also die from MND every day. There is NO cure. Average life expectancy is around 27 months.
I've created this page because I want to make a difference. Two of my old high school teachers, and a friend's father, died from MND. I'm inspired by the work of FightMND and wanted to support them by raising money as part of my participation in Supporting Fight MND. Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about FightMND, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
